In the Change of Course series I began a painting of a dramatically bending stream and
then executed several versions based on the same beginning. For this one I reproduced the
early expressionistic state at full size and then continued the painting in that manner.
I worked on this "beginning" long after I had completed other more detailed versions.
The "mixed media" notation in many of the following works refers to a process of painting and
drawing on top of an archival print of a Photoshop file. To create that file I have used photographs
of my art in early stages of the working process, often adding in details from other stages
or other paintings and sometimes photographs of the motif. I developed the process in order to work
on more than one "solution" to the beginning of a painting. I can always think of many ways
to follow through on an idea, and this process allows me to do that as well as to play with
notions of seeing and expressing visual information.
